The UIC Ticket Layout Group and the Ticket security Group have defined specifications for the barcodes used in Rail Combined Ticket 2 (RCT2), Rail Credit Card Sized Ticket (RCCST) on secured paper, A4 Rail Ticket (A4RT) and Flexible Size Ticket (FST) on blank paper or on screen (see IRS 90918-8 and 90918-9). To ensure that the barcodes cannot be counterfeited, they are digitally signed using keys based on the public-key cryptography model, also known as asymmetric cryptography. This model requires the distribution of public keys to ticket controlling organisations.
